Chinese FM: China proposes "double suspension" to defuse Korean Peninsula crisis

BEIJING, March 8 (People’s Daily) -- China proposed "double suspension" to defuse the looming crisis on the Korean Peninsula, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday. This will help the parties to break out of the security dilemma and return to the negotiating table, he added.
"As a first step, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) may suspend its nuclear and missile activities in exchange for the suspension of large-scale U.S.-Republic of Korea military exercises," Wang told a press conference on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress.
Wang also said that China will continue to be an anchor of international stability, an engine of global growth, a champion of peace and development and a contributor to global governance. He made the remarks at a press conference on the sidelines of the ongoing annual session of the National People's Congress.
