A collection of dough figurines of G20 leaders was recently created by Wu Xiaoli, an inheritor of China's intangible cultural heritage, to celebrate the G20 Hangzhou Summit.

Taking “World Peace Dream” as a theme, the dough figurines, or mianhua as they are known in Chinese, were made based on cartoon caricatures of these leaders.

To symbolize friendship and innovation, each leader hold’s a peony, China’s national flower, in his or her left hand, while the national flower of that leader’s country stands next to them. Additionally a dove sits on each leader’s shoulders, while they stand on a map of the world, combined these two symbols represent the summit’s “inclusive” and “interconnected” spirit and the idea that all countries belong to a common community of shared destinies and interests and so should contribute to global economic prosperity together.

The spirit of these artworks echo the theme of this year’s G20 summit, - “Towards an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy.”

Wu also said she hoped to have the chance give her artwork to these leaders as a present.
