Dear Editor

Sub:- (i)- Demand of plebiscite in J&K by Sikh groups tantamount to another partition of India (ii)- Sikhs will demand India’s partition in favor of Muslim Kashmiris only when see prospect of independent Khalistan (iii)- Will be easier for Pakistan to support independent Khalistan than for India to support independent Baluchistan

---- As per J&K media, the Sikh organizations [including Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (SADA), International Sikh Federation and Sikh Students Federation] led by Narinder Singh Khalsa, carried out protest in Srinagar on Monday demanding UN monitored plebiscite in J&K. Khalsa reportedly denounced the use of excessive force on Kashmiri protesters during the ongoing uprising and expressed solidarity with the allegedly indigenous Kashmir Movement. Khalsa reportedly said that Sikh community fully endorses the peaceful political protest program being initiated by the joint resistance leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik and appealed to the world community, UN and Human Rights organizations to take serious note of “state sponsored brutality” against Kashmiri protesters. Khalsa also strongly condemned the desecration of ‘Gurudwara Sahib’ in Anantnag district by security forces and also appealed to the Sikh community worldwide to render all sorts of humanitarian help and moral support to the people of J&K at this critical juncture.

Some time in future only historians will be able to say WHETHER in response to Baluchistan card played by PM Modi (during all party meeting on August, 12 and in his Independence Day speech on August, 15) to check Pakistan (which has been stoking the fires of unrest in Kashmir after killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani on July, 8) Pakistan has played Khalistan card (which will appear sooner than later) through said Sikh groups OR it has simply come as a wind-fall to Pakistan.

But nothing happens in politics coincidently hence it is a safe inference that Pakistan is playing this Khalistan card in order to defeat the Baluchistan card of PM Modi. It does not require a genius of political science to understand that the demand of plebiscite in J&K by Sikh groups tantamount to another partition of India and Sikhs will demand India’s partition in favor of Muslim Kashmiris only when see prospect of independent Khalistan. Moreover given the highly likelihood of defeat of ruling Akali Dal in coming Punjab Vidhan Sabha election the pro Khalistan forces are highly likely to be active in Punjab with the support of Khalistani organizations and supporters especially in foreign countries.

Because unlike India (which does not share border with Baluchistan) Pakistan shares border with Punjab hence can provide all types of support of money, men and material (arms and ammunition) to Khalistanis therefore it will be much easier for Pakistan to support independent Khalistan than for India to support independent Baluchistan.

Though neither India nor Pakistan will succeed in getting independent Baluchistan or independent Khalistan respectively but presently certainly it has become ‘advantage-Pakistan’ in the war of attrition between India and Pakistan because of:-

(i)- Said Sikh groups throwing spanner in the work of India (which was foolishly dancing due to Baluchistan factor recently invoked by PM Modi)

(ii)- Present situation of unrest in Kashmir which has made it a zero sum game where either India or Pakistan will have to lose the territory with it. But Pakistan has to only continue to provide civilian help / assistance / instigation to Kashmiri separatists without physically sending its military in Kashmir. Whereas on the contrary nuclear India will have to go physically in PoJK and will have to carry-out military expedition against nuclear Pakistan in order to retrieve PoJK. This of-course will invite different type of response / opposition from world community against Pakistan and India and which will put India at extremely disadvantageous position because it will be perceived by global community as Hindu aggression against Muslim Pakistan / Kashmir.

(iii)- Importance of peace in Punjab for maintaining peace in J&K.

Therefore it is high time Indians stop jingoism and start taking Kashmir problem seriously in the interest of avoiding another dismemberment of the mother-land which is looming large if India does not rectify its policies.
